ABOUT THE EXHIBITION "BLACK INDIANS FROM NEW ORLEANS"

[SOLD OUT]

Big Chief Jermaine and Big Chief Romeo, the young up-and-coming Black Indians from New Orleans, come from rival gangs in the city’s neighbourhoods. After a long history of rivalry, they have formed a band that draws on the musical tradition of carnival and takes it much further.
By feeding the tradition with their hip hop and bounce music influences, the 79rs bring their culture and the depths of the history of New Orleans to the dance floors.
Their latest album, Expect the Unexpected, a bold, sunny wonder released in 2020, is also a portrait of their city, haunted by the legacy of slavery and the memory of Hurricane Katrina.
