The day aims to discuss shamanic societies around the world. The character of the shaman continues to fascinate with his "magical" powers. Organised by the Society for Euro-Asian Studies (SEEA), the Association for the Promotion and Preservation of Himalayan Cultures (ARCH), and the International Society for Academic Research on Shamanism (ISARS)
Much has been written about the theme of shamanism in the scientific community. Archaeologists disagree on the existence of shamanism in the Palaeolithic. Anthropologists have quarrelled over the notions of trance and possession; scholars and the uninitiated often have conflicting views on what constitutes a shaman. But who is he really? Every continent has its own shamans, with unique characteristics of action that depend on particular contexts (social, ecological, etc.) which makes them difficult to identify.This study day will be the preamble to the exhibition that the Musée des Explorations du Monde will present in Cannes in summer 2023, "Shamans, Dialogues with the invisible".
