On the occasion of the exhibition "Songlines. Tracking the Seven Sisters" discover contemporary Australian creation.
AS PART OF THE CYCLE "CONTEMPORARY AUSTRALIAN EXPRESSIONS"
Marrugeku Company
Dalisa Pigram and Koen Augustijnen
A solo work by Dalisa Pigram, choreographer, dancer and co-founder of the Marrugeku company, Gudirr Gudirr traces a path between a broken past and a fragile present, with a future still in the making as its horizon.
Gudirr Gudirr is an alert, the guwayi bird that calls when the tide turns: to miss the call is to drown. With rare presence, Dalisa Pigram, makes it an intimate and intense solo, mixing dance and video.
The piece examines the legacy of Australia’s history for the Aboriginal people of the northwest and asks the question:
how do we decolonise the Aboriginal mind, unlock the doors and face cultural change?
Recommended for ages 12 and up (some scenes may offend young audiences).
A triptych video installation, based on the show and filmed in the North West Australian territories, is presented in parallel with the performances (duration: 22 min.).
