The island of New Ireland is located in the Melanesian arc, to the north-east of New Guinea. The art of New Ireland is one of the most spectacular in Oceania.
About the exhibition
With its 32 different language groups, the island offers a great diversity of ritual practices and artistic expressions related to funeral ceremonies. The exhibition manages to handle this complexity and gives a comprehensive overview of the numerous "works of art" of New Ireland : masks, canoes, ritual panels and mouth ornaments...
