Description
Légende de la planche : "Plate XVII. Hote, whose name is derived from his call, usually appears in mixed dances. This Kachina is a good example of the type with protruding eyes and may also appear in red or blue instead of the yellow mask shown. The mask has a split strand of yucca about the top and a downy feather dangles from the protruding snout. Small eagle feathers are thrust through the ears. Others, wrapped in cotton yarn, are fastened to the top of the mask. The most spectacular part of the costume is the eagle feather head dress similar to a warbonnet. Kachinas often carry roasted corn or other food which is given to the spectators after the dance".
Usage
