Description
Légende de la planche : "Plate XVIII. Chöp Kachina (Deer Kachina) is very popular in mixed dances. The mask has a turquoise face and basketry visor from which are suspended small trimmed feathers. On either side are rosettes made of cottonwood, painted leather and red horsehair and in back is a cluster of eagle feathers. The kilt is a red and black bordered maiden's blanket. A white belt, tied in the rear supplants the more usual fox skin. The leggings are of buckskin anr rain fringe is tied about the moccasins. This plate shows ont of several variations in the costume of Chöp Kachina. However, the stick representing the forelegs is common to all variations as well as to other animal Kachinas".
