; The term « metis » (mixed race) is only considered here in the metissage of colonial Caribbean society as begun in the sixteenth century. Far from those definitions in fictional discourse where he is but a parody, the metis figure is an anthropological object of Caribbean societies. Placing the metis out of that same social space which conditions him is a point of view representing such colonialism which has always refuted a new society carried by the dynamics of a colonial plan extending beyond its inherent limits. That new society is a historical, social and cultural fact. Reintegrating the metis as a constitutive dimension of Caribbean reality also means postulating a Social Caribbean Self or Identity, the recipient of the factor of experience grounded in Caribbean reality.
