How long is now?

New Circus of Objects – Taiwan

Dressing an ironing board, drinking from an umbrella, squeezing oranges with your back... The acrobats of Formosa Circus Art put new twists on circus techniques in surprising ways between aesthetics, mockery and questioning as they explore the unexpected potential of household objects.

About the performance

With How long is now?, the Taiwanese circus youth collective juggles surprisingly between aesthetics, mockery and questioning. Dressing an ironing board, drinking from an umbrella, squeezing oranges with your back, turning a hanger into a face-pulling machine, imitating the position of brooms with bodies... Through a multitude of skits with abundant off-beat humour and situational comedy, the artists mix up circus, theatre of objects and theatre of the absurd.

The acrobats of Formosa Circus Art display new ways of putting their suppleness, balance and endurance to use by exploring the unexpected potential of household objects. Stripped of redundant circus codes, this performance tests the limits of the body compared to the readymade – everyday objects with its manipulations and transformations –, in order to illustrate the existential situation of modern-day man.
