ERAMET and its subsidiary Société Le Nickel (SLN), sponsors of the exhibition “Kanak, l'art est une parole" ("Kanak, Art is a Word”) at the Musée du quai Branly.
From October 15th 2013 to January 26th 2014, ERAMET and Société Le Nickel (SLN) have undertaken to unearth and share the Kanak culture alongside the musée du quai Branly.
This exhibition, the largest on Kanak culture in the last twenty years, brings together more than 300 exceptional works and documents drawn from public collections in Europe (Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany and Italy) and New Caledonia.
“Kanak, Art is a Word” highlights the different aspects of Kanak culture, respecting its traditional and contemporary philosophies: language and the word, the earth and humanity, the relationship between man and plant life, religion and the ancients. The exhibition will feature many previously unseen and spectacular pieces, great traditional works from the world of Kanak art: wooden carvings from the Grand Huts, jade ceremonial axes, pole sculptures and a diverse selection of statuettes and ornaments.
Represented in more than 20 countries, the ERAMET Group values the understanding and respect of local cultures. Conscious of the Museum’s desire to create a dialogue between cultures, ERAMET wishes to encourage cultural exchange outside of the company framework.
Strongly anchored in New Caledonia, with establishments located in the north and south, east and west, the ERAMET Group supports this exhibition alongside its subsidiary, Société Le Nickel (SLN), which has its roots in New Caledonia, where it has operated for more than 130 years. Proud of its economic, social and cultural commitment, Société Le Nickel (SLN) is committed to developing New Caledonia and to discovering its indigenous culture, through this exhibition.
ERAMET and Société Le Nickel (SLN) will also be the main sponsors of the exhibition at the Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre in Noumea in 2014.
