The supported project

An Inuit mask, extraordinary owing to its oldness, its ethnological worth and its symbolic value, from the Robert Lebel collection has come into the collections of the musée du quai Branly with the help of the company METROPOLE Gestion. This Yup'ik mask known as "The Man-from-the-Moon", is a part of a remarkable array of North-American objects collected by the surrealists, André Breton, Georges Duthuit, Max Ernst and their friend Claude Lévi-Strauss during their American exile. METROPOLE Gestion brought in its assistance in 2006 for the acquisition of the mask and continued honouring its commitment in 2007 by contributing to the museographic installation of the mask at the very core of the spaces earmarked for permanent collections in the Americas section.

The sense of commitment

The ancestral values of various civilizations undoubtedly constitute the base for all human adventures.The very history of this mask shows how much it has influenced our culture.METROPOLE Gestion, an independent portfolio management company wished to contribute towards acquisition of this Yup'ik mask known as "The Man-from-the-Moon" in order to allow a better understanding of these arts and cultures". By this action, METROPOLE Gestion wishes to affirm its commitment in the dissemination of knowledge and cultures.

Les actions à destination des publics en marge des pratiques culturelles sont au centre du projet du musée et des valeurs qu’il défend. Rendre le musée accessible à chacun est un objectif qui s’inscrit dans la durée.

Après avoir mis en place pendant une période de quatre mois un partenariat avec la ville de Montreuil, le musée a souhaité poursuivre ses actions au moment de la rentrée scolaire. L’association Formidable Jeunesse soutenue par METROPOLE Gestion a souhaité accompagner le musée dans sa démarche.

A l’occasion d’un après-midi évènement, le lundi 31 octobre 2011, le musée a ainsi ouvert ses portes à 180 enfants et à leurs accompagnateurs de 15 centres de loisirs de la Ville de Montreuil, dans le cadre d’un dispositif d’accueil et de médiation culturelle spécifique. Les enfants ont été conviés à un spectacle conté sur le thème de l’Océanie dans le foyer du Théâtre Claude Lévi-Strauss, à des visites des collections et des ateliers sur le thème du Tiki, en écho à l’exposition Maori – Leurs trésors ont une âme.
