ERAMET and Société Le Nickel (SLN)
ERAMET and its subsidiary Société Le Nickel (SLN): Patrons of the “Kanak, l’art est une parole” exhibition at the musée du quai Branly.
From October 15, 2013 to January 26, 2014, ERAMET and Société Le Nickel (SLN) are joining forces with the musée du quai Branly to present and share the Kanak culture.
This exhibition of Kanak culture, the largest of its kind organized in the last twenty years, brings together more than 300 exceptional works and documents from public collections in Europe (Austria, Switzerland, France, Germany and Italy) and New Caledonia.
“Kanak, l’art est une parole” highlights different aspects of Kanak culture while respecting both its traditional and contemporary philosophies: language and speech, the earth and humanity, the relationship between Man and the plant world, religious figures and elders.
A host of spectacular pieces from among the great classics of Kanak art will be on display for the very first time: carved doorframes from large huts, ceremonial jade axes, carved wooden rooftop sculptures, statuettes and a wide variety of ornaments.
With a presence in more than 20 countries, the ERAMET group has incorporated its understanding and respect of local cultures into its core values. Well aware of the musée du quai Branly’s willingness and determination to nurture cultural dialogue, ERAMET wishes to encourage cultural exchange beyond the scope of its company activities.
Firmly established in New Caledonia and with sites throughout the island from the North to the South and along both its East and West coasts, the Group supports this exhibition along with its subsidiary Société Le Nickel (SLN), a company founded in New Caledonia and in operation there for more than 130 years. Société Le Nickel (SLN) is proud of its economic, social and cultural commitments and sees this exhibition as a way to express its dedication to developing New Caledonia and presenting its ancestral culture.
ERAMET and Société Le Nickel (SLN) will also act as the main patrons of the exhibition at the Tjibaou Cultural Center in Noumea in 2014.
ERAMET is a French mining and metallurgical group that bases its operations and business development on a sustainable, profitable and balanced growth strategy. The Group has close to 15,000 employees on five continents and is a global market leader in each of its business activities: nickel, manganese and specialty alloys.
