As part of the centenary the birth of Jean Rouch, a weekend of screenings and debates designed to illustrate the 'inverted gaze' will be held at the musée du quai Branly —Jacques Chirac, coordinated by the Fondation Jean Rouch and the association Centenaire Jean Rouch 2017.
About the screenings
A notion, a vision, a practice... all the fruit of this 'shared anthropology' that Jean Rouch had always called for and helped bring about. Following a selection of short extracts from Jean Rouch films, a series of films from the 1960s and '70s will be screened, all by first-generation African film-makers – Nigerian, Senegalese and Ivorian – who were close to Jean Rouch and who practiced this idea of the inverted gaze. Guest speakers will lead the debates and screenings.
The copies of the films are taken from the African film library at the Institut français.
