Aux sources de la peinture aborigène

Australie, Tjukurrtjanu

Content

For the first time in Europe, the exhibition and catalogue present a major artistic movement, born in Papunya in the desert of central Australia at the beginning of the 1970s. By transposing the motifs of ephemeral ritual paintings onto canvas, the artists of Papunya created an innovative artistic expression, rich in formal invention and meaning. The descriptions of each of the 20 artists are accompanied by more than 200 images.
