Exotica, de Mauricio Kagel

As part of the Agora Festival (IRCAM-Centre Pompidou)

Thursday 7 June 2007, at 8 p.m.

Ensemble Modern, conducted by Mauricio Kagel

A ‘cosmopolitan work for non-European instruments, Exotica is a dreamlike, ironic journey across the world, and is included in theatre programming as part of the IRCAM festival (6 to 24 June 2007). Interpreted by six musicians, playing some forty popular or traditional instruments (including puk, Balinese gong, tabla, caxixi, and doundoun), Exotica is sung in a mix of strange languages. In this work, rooted in the music of Africa, India, China, Patagonia and Morocco, Mauricio Kagel has created his own imaginary folklore.
