* Cycle 5: Desert blues: griots and poets of the sands
June 14th - 17th 2007
Bringing together 21 major traditional African artists, including the Touareg group Ensemble Tartit, Afel Bocoum, the river poet, and Habib Koité, this multimedia presentation, a mix of live music and video projection, evokes some of Mali’s most beautiful musical traditions. Desert blues is a musical journey which places desert Touareg, Songhai from the Niger loop and Bambara from Mandingo country together on the same stage, in front of a heady background of ever-changing images ranging from luminous abstraction to the boldly figurative. The scenography is by Michel Jaffrennou.
Thursday 14th, Friday 15th, and Saturday 16th June 2007, at 8 pm.
Sunday June 17th at 5 pm.
The presentation can be complemented by the ‘Become a griot’ workshop (2 hours, open to all and accessible to the visually impaired). See Cultural Activities and times in the ‘Fall Program' brochure.
