Siberia

Some thirty different ethnic groups inhabit Siberia, speaking languages from a variety of linguistic groups – Samoyed, Finno-Ugrian, Tungusic, Turkish, Mongol, Louarovetleian, and Paleosiberian … The cycle presents, for the first time, traditions of music and song of shamanic inspiration from this vast territory. Without claiming to give a complete picture, it comprises a representative selection of Siberian music, with four concerts loosely connected to different languages spoken. Performances will be introduced by two lectures.

4 concerts :

Thursday 1, Friday 2, and Saturday 3 February, at 8 p.m.

Sunday 4 February at 5 p.m.

2 introductory lectures :

Thursday 1 and Saturday 3 February 2007, at 6.30 p.m.

The cycle can be complemented by the exploration visit ‘Soothsayers and Shamans’ (1 hour, open to adults).
