Persian music is expressed through the radif musical system, a melodic and modal classification which provides a structure but which also leaves room for improvisation.
It is from this freedom contained within the laws of the system which the singer attempts to extract the emotion.

Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February 2010
In parallel with the music salon, Isabelle and Alfredo Palacios, a couple whose own story is closely linked to tango, offer an introduction to this dance of improvisation. These renowned virtuosos, from families of artists and tango dancers from Buenos Aires and Cordoba, perform all over the world and regularly liven up the famous Bistrot Latin evenings in Paris.

Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th April 2010.
This master class, led by Antoine Bourgeau, an ethnomusicologist, is designed as an introduction to the tabla, an instrument he learnt to play alongside Shri Hanuman in Benares. Using the traditional method of oral teaching and the enunciation of the rhythmic onomatopoeias, the sessions are devoted to learning the main beats (bol) on the two tabla drums (dayan and bayan) and a few compositions (qaida, theka, tukra…) which form part of Hindustani music.
