The museum's cinema hosts festivals, themed screening evenings and regular cycles of films.

This season, discover the screenings organised by learned societies, but also the evenings with the documentary training school Ateliers Varan, which make possible an encounter with the reality of a country by means of a filmed documentary in the spirit of Jean Rouch.

Themed cycles of films are also presented to reflect the museum's exhibitions. The sessions, which alternate fiction, documentary, archives and short films, introduce films and reference documentaries, from classics to rare films.

Ateliers Varan screenings

Each quarter, the musée du quai Branly presents an evening screening with Ateliers Varan, the documentary film training centre.

A direct descendant of the film of Jean Rouch, Richard Leacock, Pierre Perrault and Fred Wiseman, the Ateliers Varan train young filmmakers, teaching them to film everyday realities and to express in images what makes a cultural identity.

The quarterly evening screenings thus offer a new look at the documentary, with films produced outside the country by young French filmmakers, accompanied by teams from Ateliers Varan.

Programme de documentaires sur les “Trésors nationaux vivants” des Philippines :
À l’instar du Japon, les Philippines valorisent des artistes reconnus par le pays comme des personnalités exceptionnelles pour leurs carrières consacrées à préserver des traditions artistiques ou artisanales. Ils sont nommés « Trésors nationaux vivants », ou « Gawad sa Manililikha ng Bayan ».
En association avec la National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA) des Philippines, le musée du quai Branly vous propose de découvrir ces artistes hors du commun, à travers la projection de 4 documentaires.

Uwang Ahadas, Creating a Legacy of Music (60 mn)
Documentaire sur la vie d’Uwang Ahadas et la culture Yakan, au sud-ouest des Philippines.
Preserving the Intangible. The Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan 2000 (11 mn)
Ce documentaire explique la politique des Philippines pour préserver les traditions et les cultures des peuples autochtones du pays.

Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan 2004. A world of Harmony and Balance (11 mn)
Ce documentaire montre des artistes et des artisans philippins au travail : art du tissage, de la gravure de métal, musique, quelques-uns des « Trésors nationaux vivants » sont filmés à l’œuvre.

Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan 2012 (8 mn)
Les « Trésors nationaux vivants » nommés en 2012 sont présentés : art du tissage et du textile et fabrication de chapeaux traditionnels.
