Curator: Barbara Plankensteiner, Director of African Collections at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna.
Produced by the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna, the Benin exhibition displays works of art from the Court of the Kingdom of Benin. For the first time in Europe, this exhibition combines collections that are mainly from Austria, England and Germany. The collection of these works is of a remarkable historic value and it conveys a vast panorama of art and culture from the Kingdom of Benin. It includes bronzes and ivory, but also maps, manuscripts and travel logs, which reveal the nature of Nigeria’s wealthy past.
