Résumé
The Tay-Thai linguistic family is a huge one, spreading from chinese southern provinces of Guanxi and Guizhou, through northern Vietnam, northern Laos and Myanmar, not to mention being a substantial part of the population of Laos and Thailand. The Thai in northern Vietnam number over a million and are divided in black Thais (in Dien Bien, Son La, and Lai Chau north-west provinces) and white Thai. In Luang Namtha northern Laos, I was recommended a black Thai woman Luong Thi Song and went to find her at home in Cocu village in Dien Bien, Vietnam, recorded her solo and got a vcd of her with 2 instruments (a 2 string fiddle and a reed bamboo flute called pi pap)
