sound and audiovisual documents
The musée du quai Branly mediatheque holds a collection of sound and audiovisual documents.
The discographic collection includes music recordings in the oral tradition as well as spoken sound documents – stories, poems, speeches – from on-site recordings, concerts or institutional archives.
The videographic collection includes specialized documentaries in the field of ethnology and anthropology or in the field of non-Western arts and civilisations as well as a selection of fictional films representing the cultures of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. It also includes archives produced by the museum in connection with its cultural activities (concerts, living spectacles, conferences, etc.)
A digital collection
This collection favours digital media for the conservation and consultation of documents. It includes:
- more than 3,000 CDs and 200 DVDs acquired commercially;
- a collection of analogical published documents and unpublished archives, in the process of being digitized: 200 LP records, EPs and 700 tapes as well as audio and video cassettes.
The documents from this collection are accessible at the public areas of the study and research mediatheque. A request to consult a document can be made by selecting the document’s mark in the mediatheque’s catalogue. A CD and DVD programming schedule, relating to current events at the museum, is also available in the Jacques Kerchache reading room.
