society of études euro-asiatiques
history and composition

Founded in 1977, the Société des Etudes Euro-Asiatiques (association under the freedom of association law of 1901) was originally housed by the Musée de l'Homme where it joined its elders: the Sociétés des Américanistes, des Africanistes et des Océanistes (The Americanist, Africanist and Oceanist societies). Its head office is currently at the musée du quai Branly.
Its aim is to study the exchanges that have the affected the lifestyles and cultures of an immense continent. A continent through which ideas, religions arts and goods have never ceased to circulate via traders, warriors and pilgrims.
As a pluri-disciplinary society, it groups ethnologists, geographers, historians and specialists of literary and religious sciences. It provides them with a space in which to discuss their respective approaches: approaches that cover an area from Iceland to Indonesia. Despite the span of these territories and the diversity of their cultures, remarkable continuities exist alongside the particularities that characterise each of them.
