the museum documentation and archives catalogue

Archives and museum documentation are for the most part from the Musée de l’Homme and the former Musée national des Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie, but also include recent acquisitions.

In order to improve the services offered, the museum seeks your opinion on the functioning and use of its catalogs and requests your collaboration in responding to an on-line survey. Participating in the survey will take only a few minutes of your time. Click here to access the questionnaire.

Collections archives and documentations comprise:

- collections files: legal, administrative, technical and scientific documentation on each collection,

- documentary files on anthropologists, missions, artists and exhibitions,

- inventories,

- bibliographical references concerning the collections and documentary files,

- public and private archives collections.

Having file and document references online puts a range of innovative scientific tools at the public’s disposal for discovery and study of the history of the collections. The archives of the Musée des colonies, for example, which were inherited from the former Musée national des arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie, are a major source of information on the International Colonial Exhibition of 1931.

This online experience may be complemented by consultation of the corresponding 90,000 digitised documents – Thérèse Rivière and Jacques Faublée’s collections files, inventories and archives, for example.

For more detailed information, consult online conditions.
