Gradhiva online issues

Gradhiva is on-line at the site  Revues.org.

Three issues are available in their complete texts as well as contents, summaries, and report of the most recent issues.

Established in 1986 by Michel Leiris and Jean Jamin, and published by the publishing house Jean-Michel Place, the journal was originally the tool of expression of the Group of Research and Analyses on the History and Variations of Anthropology – a research team of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and of the “history of ethnology department” of the Musée de l’Homme. Its subtitle made explicit its focus: journal of history and archives of anthropology.

On the occasion of the launch of the new serial: the subtitle became: journal of anthropology and museology, without changing its scientific vocation nor its editorial politics. The journal remained a place for debate on the history of and current developments in anthropology based on original studies and publication of archives or accounts. Gradhiva also privileged the study and analysis of material or symbolic objects as well as museological and anthropological questions. Above all, it is open to multiple disciplines: ethnology, aesthetics, history, sociology, literature and even music. It further aims to develop and interaction between text and image through often unpublished and unique iconography.

In 2007, Gradhiva was designated one of the best French journals on cultural anthropology (rank “A”) by CNRS “Societies and cultures: comparative approaches”
