Preventive conservation is a global approach which covers all of the actions involved in preventing and slowing the deterioration of the collections.
The aim is to act, directly or indirectly, on the agents causing the deterioration to which they are subject, such as climatic variations, biological contamination and light.
The preventive conservation team is responsible for the daily monitoring of the collections and carries out assignments involving:
- conservation monitoring: inspection and monitoring of the collections;
- climatic and environmental control and monitoring;
- assessment of exhibition, transport and storage conditions;
- marking and packaging the collections.
