The va'a, outrigger canoe

Within the framework of the development of cooperation of the musée du quai Branly with Polynesia, the musée du quai Branly welcomes the Va'a programme, the Polynesian dugout canoe, created and produced by the Museum of Tahiti and her islands (Te Fare Iamanaha).

The va'a, outrigger canoe, represents the fundamental relationship that the people of the islands have with the sea. A method of transport, communication, war and trade, it is a common feature in all the regions where Austronesian cultures and languages originated.
