arts of the benue river valley

Following the course of the Benué River in the footsteps of the first explorers, this catalogue and exhibition reposition almost 150 objects – sculptures and masks made primarily of wood, ceramic and metal – in a geographical and historical context. By focusing on the formal relationships between the objects, going beyond the sometimes imprecise or reductive ethnic identities, the exhibition aims to present a fairer and dynamic illustration of the arts of this region, which are rarely shown in public.
